Invest with Confidence: A Comparison of Stock Picking Services
Looking for help determining which stocks to buy? In a flat or down market options may feel limited. Fortunately, several innovative services can help with portfolio rebalancing and outperforming benchmarks for public markets.
At Fund Wisdom we have focused on startup companies offering early angel investments, often seed stage, still private, raising on funding portals through Regulation Crowdfunding (RegCF). At Fund Wisdom, we've explored these offerings to assist active traders and investors seeking advanced stock analysis tools.
We have established affiliate relationships with a few of the below firms, so we look to hear your feedback if you use any and have had success or frustration. Read on to get the scoop on some fancy stock-picking services that might just give you an edge.
Outprfrm
- Starting Cost: $5.50 monthly if you lock in the year
- Source of Picks: AI-driven stock insights with daily stock ratings and rankings
Outprfrm focuses on evaluating the accuracy of financial analysts' stock price predictions. It aggregates and analyzes these predictions, assigning scores to analysts based on their historical accuracy. This helps users identify the most reliable analysts and their recommendations. The platform provides tools to track predictions, compare analysts, and discover new investment opportunities based on vetted predictions. It is user-friendly and geared towards making investment decisions more approachable for both new and experienced investors. Their HQ is in Texas.
VectorVest
- Cost: $69/month for the basic tier, though they offer further subscription tiers with different features.
- Source: a proprietary rating system based on technical analysis indicators
- Value based approach using unique blend of fundamental and technical analysis.
They provide a comprehensive stock analysis and portfolio management system. It evaluates stocks based on value, safety, and timing (VST), offering a clear rating for each stock. They provide buy, sell, or hold recommendations. Expect robust charting tools, market timing signals, and educational resources, making it suitable for both novice and seasoned traders looking for a data-driven approach to investing.
Motley Fool

The Motley Fool Stock Advisor is a subscription service that provides stock recommendations with a focus on growth stocks and a community driven approach. You get their buy recommendations every month to help you build a diverse portfolio.
They offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it to ensure you are impressed.
BuyAlerts
- $100/month though no public pricing can be found on the site at the moment.
- Source: Assume picks come from Founder Herman Edwin Cruz as the only detail we could find on their site states, "A team of professional analysts with stellar track records oversee and discuss every trade to accelerate results."
We have covered them from their securing of $1.47 Million in funding from Republic funding portal in July of 2023. Note a post with mostly negative input from users on Reddit about their experiences.
MarketXLS
-
$8.25 monthly
-
Source: You, as there is no stock picking being provided by them, but Microsoft Excel is the answer to every question (even the ones you didn't ask). The software is built to make it easy to research, track and invest in primarily public financial markets.
- Stream Live Stock Data or Refresh on Demand
- Get Professional-grade Historical Stock data in Excel
- Optimize your Portfolios
- Screen by returns, dividends, fundamentals, valuations, and more
- Perform Technical Analysis like Pros
- Pre-made stock lists, symbol lookup, industry and sector classifications, Twitter integration, valuation models
I personally use Google Sheets at the moment which comes with data feeds from Google Finance, but there are limitations to what type of data you can pull.
Ranking
Several investors on Reddit have expressed skepticism about services like Motley fool. I have not personally used the Fool's Premium Stock advisor offering, but find their articles and community submissions to be helpful. Outprfrm and VectorVest, with their machine-driven approaches, offer promising alternatives. I personally like to do more of the research myself and tend to make very infrequent concentrated buys in a single company, so would lean more towards MarketXLS. Let us know how these services have worked for you.
